Health, Transport and Work

Settling into Life in Australia

As an international student, settling into life in Australia involves more than just your studies. Here is some key information to help you feel confident and supported during your time with us.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

All international students are required to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of their stay in Australia.

OSHC helps cover the cost of medical care, hospital visits, and prescription medicine while you are in Australia.

We can connect you with trusted OSHC providers and help you understand what is included in your cover, how to make a claim, and where to find health services near campus.

Transport in Sydney

Getting around Sydney is easy with a well-connected public transport system including trains, metro, buses, ferries, and light rail.

As a student, you may be eligible for concession fares on public transport, which can save you money on your daily commute.

Our student support team can help you apply for an Opal Card, plan your travel routes, and provide tips for navigating Sydney safely and efficiently.

Note: Sydney’s metro system is new and expanding.

Working While Studying

International students with a valid student visa are permitted to work part-time while studying. This is a great way to gain experience, improve your English, and support yourself financially.

Currently, student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during study periods, and full-time during official breaks.

We provide resources and support to help you find part-time work, understand your workplace rights, and balance your job with your studies.
