Entry Requirements Overview

We are committed to ensuring that all our students meet the appropriate entry requirements for their chosen course. Our entry requirements are aligned with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and accredited by TEQSA, ensuring that you are fully prepared for success in your studies.

Course specific requirements

Each course has specific entry requirements based on the level of study and the program’s content. These requirements are designed to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in your chosen field.

Whether you are applying for undergraduate or postgraduate programs, we provide clear guidelines to help you understand what is needed.

Bachelor of Information Technology and Innovation

General Admission Domestic Students 

Prospective students must have: 

  1. Attained 18 years of age on commencement of studies. 
  1. Australian senior secondary qualifications: New South Wales Higher School Certificate, Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Year 12 Certificate, Queensland Senior Examination, South Australian Certificate of Education, Tasmanian Certificate of Education, Victorian Certificate of Education, Western Australian Year 12 with a minimum ATAR of 60; or 
  1. Overseas secondary qualifications listed at https://www.uac.edu.au/future-applicants/admission-criteria/overseas-qualifications with attainment of the ATAR equivalent of 60; or 
  1. VET (Vocational Education and Training) Certificate III or above in a relevant discipline; or 
  1. Satisfactory completion of at least one year of accredited full-time study at a registered institute of higher education at AQF level 4 or above in Australia; or 
  1. Completion of an Australian University Enabling Program, or 
  1. Any credit granted under the Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedures. 
  1. Domestic high school leavers must have Australian senior secondary qualifications as listed above with a minimum ATAR of 60. 

Special and/or alternative entry  

This includes mature age applicants and/or those who do not hold their HSC or equivalent. In the event that individuals without HSC or equivalent apply for admission, they will be considered on the basis of credit granted under Recognition of Prior Learning Policy and Procedures. 

  1. The Central Institute may also administer such procedures as tests, interviews, and auditions. 
  1. The Central Institute will also negotiate articulation agreements with: 
  • ELICOS providers, allowing the possibility of entry into the first year of the degree. 
  • VET providers, allowing the possibility of entry with credit transfer. 
  • Higher education diploma providers, allowing the possibility of entry with credit transfer. 

Knowledge of Mathematics 

Applicants for the Bachelor of Information Technology and Innovation are assumed to have a knowledge of Mathematics at least at the standard of Australian Year 11 attainment. 

General Admission International Students 

Applicants require an IELTS Test Score result of minimum 6.0, with no band lower than 5.5 (or equivalent TOEFL, CAE, or Pearson Test for English).  

Master of Information Technology and Innovation

General Admission Domestic Students 

Prospective students must: 

  1. Have attained 18 years of age on commencement of studies. 
  1. Have Australian bachelor degree qualifications in a cognate discipline; or 
  1. International bachelor qualifications or equivalent in a cognate discipline listed at  https://www.uac.edu.au/future-applicants/postgraduate-applicants; or 
  1. Have work experience in a relevant cognate field for a minimum of two years and completed within the last three years. Applicants will have to demonstrate work experience is relevant to the course, and current and equivalent to the learning outcomes achieved in a bachelor degree in the same discipline as the proposed Post Graduate Program. Students will provide this evidence in the form of a written reference from their current workplace outlining their current duties and how they are relevant to the Master program. 
  1. For applicants applying with bachelor degrees, or work experience in a non-cognate field provide an additional personal written statement outlining how their formal studies and work experience has provided them with sufficient learning as to be able to reach the entry standards. Such students may be subject to a written examination or interview with the Dean. Students may need to complete appropriate introductory units as determined by the Dean.  
  1. Any credit will be granted under the Recognition of Prior Learning, Advanced Standing, and Credit Transfer Policy and Procedures. 

General Admission International Students  

Applicants require an IELTS Test Score result of minimum 6.5, with no band lower than 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL, CAE, or Pearson Test for English) or have completed 12 months of study in Australia. Prospective students must: 

  1. Have attained 18 years of age on commencement of studies. 
  1. Have Australian bachelor degree qualifications in a cognate discipline; or 
  1. International bachelor qualifications or equivalent in a cognate discipline listed at  https://www.uac.edu.au/future-applicants/postgraduate-applicants; or 
  1. Have work experience in a relevant cognate field for a minimum of two years and completed within the last three years. Applicants will have to demonstrate work experience is relevant to the course, and is current and equivalent to the learning outcomes achieved in a bachelor degree in the same discipline as the proposed post graduate program. English Language Entry Requirements  

The table below outlines the minimum English language standards for direct entry into the Institute (excluding packaged offers). Students are required to meet one of the listed criteria to be eligible.
